the Age of AI: From Digital Tools to
Intelligent, Creative, Human-Centred
Learning
Prof. Herman Dwi Surjono is a professor at the Faculty of Engineering, Yogyakarta State University
(YSU), Indonesia. He was appointed a full professor in 2014 and awarded the best professor in 2020
by YSU. He actively educates both undergraduate and graduate students in multimedia learning, e-
learning, interactive multimedia, ICT for education, and digital media. Academically, Prof. Herman
completed his bachelor's degree in electronic education from IKIP Yogyakarta in 1986, followed by
a master’s degree in industrial education and technology from Iowa State University (USA) in 1994,
a second master’s in computer systems and informatics from Gadjah Mada University in 2000, and
a Ph.D. in information technology from Southern Cross University (Australia) in 2006. An
accomplished researcher, his scholarly focus centers heavily on adaptive hypermedia, computer-
based learning, e-learning, online education, digital learning and multimedia learning. He has
published extensive work—including journal papers, books, and instructional videos—while also
holding prestigious senior memberships in international organizations such as the Association for
Computing Machinery (ACM), the American Society for Research (ASR), the Universal Association
of Computer and Electronics Engineers (UACEE) and the International Association of Computer
Science and Information Technology (IACSIT).
